Wheelers Words – Wheelers welcomes two new apprentices

At Wheelers, we’re always delighted to welcome new talent into the team, and this autumn we’re pleased to introduce our two newest apprentices, Nick Powell and Liam Good. Both have already made a fantastic start and bring with them a great deal of enthusiasm, ambition, and a strong appetite for learning.

Apprenticeships are an important part of how we invest in the future of our firm, helping to shape the next generation of accountants and tax consultants who will carry our standards forward.

Meet our two new apprentices – Liam Good and Nick Powell

Meet Nick

Nick recently graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Economics (BSc), alongside a diploma in professional studies thanks to a year-long industry placement. Before university, he studied Maths, Economics and Business at Springwood Sixth Form.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Nick enjoys everything from football and cricket to Formula One and darts — often attending events in person. He’s also passionate about horse racing, which he describes as a perfect blend of competitive sport and his love for numbers and data. Outside of sport, he’s often found at music festivals and concerts.

Speaking about his career choice, Nick told us:

“Having always been strong mathematically and good at working with numbers, I feel I have been destined for a finance-related career since a young age. Thanks to this opportunity provided to me by Wheelers, I now have the chance to kickstart such a career.”

Nick is now working towards his ACA qualification and is already thriving in the supportive culture at Wheelers:

“All throughout the hiring process I got the sense there is a real, family-like togetherness amongst the people who work here. Whilst I have only been here for a month or so, I can already see that I was right about the culture — everyone has been very welcoming, which I am extremely grateful for.”

Meet Liam

After completing sixth form in 2022, Liam initially started at Loughborough University to study Maths, before deciding it wasn’t the right path for him. He went on to work at British Sugar with Emcor, which gave him time to consider his future career. In 2024, a health setback meant he had to change direction, which ultimately led him to discover accountancy.

Outside of work, Liam enjoys keeping active with running, walking, and swimming, as well as playing video games with friends. His career goals are ambitious — aiming not only for ACCA or ACA after AAT, but eventually CTA, with hopes of climbing the career ladder.

He shares:

“I chose to start my career with Wheelers as they have a high standard of work, which is the perfect environment to learn in. Having been working at Wheelers for just over a month now, I’ve enjoyed my time and have settled in nicely. Everyone is friendly and if I have any questions, anyone is happy to help.”

Supporting the next generation

Co-Partner Helen Garrett shared her thoughts on welcoming Nick and Liam:

“We’re thrilled to have Nick and Liam join the team. Both bring drive, resilience, and fresh perspectives that will serve them well as they progress in their careers. Apprenticeships are a vital part of how we grow our firm, and it reflects my own desire to help shape the next generation of accountants and tax consultants. We look forward to supporting them as they build their careers with Wheelers.”

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Nick and Liam.
